
Sigiriya is an ancient city located in the central Matale District of Sri Lanka. The city is famous for its ancient rock fortress, which is also called Sigiriya.
Sigiriya rock fortress was built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century AD as his palace and citadel. The fortress is located on top of a massive rock that rises 200 meters above the surrounding jungle. The rock is surrounded by moats, walls, and gardens, which were built to protect the fortress from enemies.
The Sigiriya rock fortress is also known for its unique frescoes, which depict beautiful women in various poses. These frescoes are considered to be some of the best preserved examples of ancient Sri Lankan art.
Sigiriya city is well connected to other parts of Sri Lanka by road, and there are several luxury hotels and resorts in the area to cater to tourists.
